Introduction of Economic Analysis is a course in which your idea of how the economy works will be challenged. Using history, insight, and analysis you will better understand the true impact of economic changes. After this course you will make better estimations on how the economy will be in the near future, have a lot of broad knowledge on how the economy works, and be able to recognize trends.
Everyone should be mandated to take a course in economics. It would help awaken so many people to the reality of how the world works. It is also mandatory that you understand how money works and moves, afterall, isn't making money the point of the degree you are pursuing? Take this class. It will educate you beyond many of your main classes ever will, and all of it is practical.
This course seems more of a mash up of intro to Macro/Microeconomics. But the way it's taught can make this class easy whether you take this online or in-person. If were to take this class for general education, which I didn't, this is good class to get started for electives in the upper level.
Overall, I really enjoyed the online course and I felt that this did an great job of introducing economic thinking and topics to somebody who hasn't studied a similar field. Dr. Myers was very fair in his grading and the course was very well organized with clear deadlines and expectations. I wish that the quizzes asked for more extended response style questions rather than the multiple choice ones, but all in all I do feel that I learned a lot from the course on both macro and microeconomic content.
I enjoyed the course very much. While it is online Dr. Myers gives a lot of feedback and responds to any questions you might have. There are a lot of resources to learn from if you are not understanding concepts. Overall this course was great and one of my best experiences with an online class.
Do not procratinate. There is a lot of work that is due each week to grasp all of the information for the quizzes. Watch all of the videos...do not just click on them to open them to move on. They solidify the concepts that the text talks about and makes the information more entertaining. DO NOT take tests back-to-back. I know the professor says that in the syllabus and asks about it in the modules, but take time and go back to cover the areas you missed questions on.
Dr. Myers runs this class like a well oiled machine. The modules are well structured and easy to follow. With enough effort, getting a good grade in this class is very achievable.
I think this class was very much worth taking, I learned a lot that I didn't know before and was able to solidify things I did know but couldn't articulate well. The course felt well paced and I never felt like the material was going too slow or too fast. The quizzes themselves aren't bad and as long as you are prepared for them you will do well on them. The overall work load of the course isn't that bad and you will do well in the course as long as you stay on top of things and don't get behind in turning quizzes in. Overall, a great experience and easily the best fully online class I've taken so far, I would reccomend it to anyone who needs to take this class or is interested in learning more about economics.
This online course is very organized. The instructor also has a great amount of knowledge on the subject and you can clearly tell he loves what he does. Overall a good class to take.
This course was a good intro to economic principles. It was well-balanced between micro and macro concepts. Since it is self-paced and learn-on-your-own, it takes some self-discipline. It was a good mix of reading, viewing video/audio presentations, and writing. The professor values critical thinking in addition to fact learning. He also values spelling, grammar, and communication skills.
I felt that this course was very well planned out which is awesome because I have had some classes already as a sophomore that just felt disorganized and chaotic to get through. This one felt inviting and well planned out each module was thought through very carefully to give us the best learning experience possible. I did struggle during a few modules as you saw but I still felt like I got good things out of it. Also as I did not answer a lot of emails (which I need to work on) but receiving the emails definitely was helpful to try to get us the greatest success possible. Thank you for a great semester Dr. Meyers Happy holidays!
When learning the modulues, the resources to return to were bar none, the power points. The power points contain definitions, explainations, as well as examples, if you are able to read the power points carefully and have a decent grasp on economics entering the course, the power points are all you really need. If you do not have a decent grasp of economics going into the course, the supplemental videos can help clear up any confusing regarding the content you have quickly as many of the videos explain things in 'dumbed-down' terms that can make the concepts much easier to understand.
This course great to take to go in depth with the mocro and macro economy. Dr.Meyers does an outstanding job providing content to watch and learn about the economy. Everything is relatively straightforward as long as you follow the course outline, stay up to date on content, and watch the videos.
If you know that you are not happy with a fully online class, do not take this class. Also, do not take this class if you think it will be a buffer grade. The instructor treated this course very much as if it should be your center of attention at all times. Neglection other responsibilities a student might have.
The class provides a base understanding of economics. Also the class is quite manageable if one does not get behind on their work. Also the class is setup for online. So some problems that may have occur due to switching to online, (covid) should not happen in this class.
To the future students of this course,
This course is laid out very clearly for you. From the day that you are able to start viewing the material, you are charged with the great responsibility of an asynchronous class, which comes with a plethora of benefits if you can handle the responsibility. You will be able to either get the class work done in a very timely manner and make time for other things such as design teams if you are an CEPS student, or you will procrastinate and struggle, and likely harm your success. This class paves the way for you to succeed, you just need to be willing to walk the path and learn.
In terms of what you will learn, the course is separated into two parts: microeconomics and macroeconomics. Make sure you pick up on the foundations of these or you will be confused about some of the more intricate details, in which you will lag behind, something that you desperately want to avoid, lest it start snowballing. Microeconomics is something you can much more easily see in real life than macroeconomics, but you might find some ideas to be counterintuitive, so you must make sure you educate yourself and dispel any wrongly preconcieved ideas about economics. Macroeconomics on the other hand seems a tad bit arduous at first, but the information you learn seems much more difficult than it actually is. Study the information, and you might end up like me, and go from being afraid of the information to embracing it and enjoying discussion about it. Make the best of this course, it can really change you for the better if you let it. Lastly, make sure to keep in touch with your professor. I had Professor Myers, in which he was always glad to help out, and always had interesting stories to tell, wisdom to endow, and frankly is nice to have conversation with. Long story short: you are in charge of whether or not you succeed in this class. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the class like I did, if you decide to take it (or if you are required to, like I was).
It makes sense for a business major student to take this course but for an engineer major dont know why?
I'd really recommend this course it is probably my favorite class from my current semester. This would be a must take if you have ever had any interest in economics, I feel as if I learned a lot during this class. And it helped me expand my knowledge on topics that I already found interesting.
This course is a very interesting and informative one. When choosing my schedule for the semester, I thought economics is a course of waste of time as some of my high school mates told me. As an international student with a different curriculum from how as it applies in the U.S, I never took any course related to economics, but after the taking this course I find it a great opportunity because I always wanted to get the idea behind economics and how policies work in government. Now, I can now understand some terms and concepts of economic when reading news which deals with government policies and how the operations in market. I can now say the goals I had in mind for this class have been met because I always downloaded sample questions on each module as pdf and worked them before attempting the actual quiz. It help increase my understanding because the samples quizzes always sent back to the textbook where I gathered additional information for the actual quizzes. I personally recommend that audio recordings and other introductory information before the start of each module should be taken serious. It's an interesting course.#Intro to Economic Analysis
This course will expand your horizons on the very economy you live in but it's not for someone with a lack of drive to want to learn. This course will benefit you in ways you may of thought aren't possible but it helps to understand things like why there's more or less money in the economy or even why gas prices are the way they are. In other words this course will give the gift of analytical thinking if you allow it.
Overall, the course was very straight forward you knew what you had to get done each week before the week even happened. Each week followed the same pattern which was nice because that way there were no surprises and you knew what assignments had to be done.
The class load is heavy. I know of other professors that will make managing your other classes easier. Especially if you are a STEM major.
This course is for those who want a challenge while also connecting realtively basic concepts to everyday scernaios. This course helps to explain key economic topics that can harder to understand- such as Gross Domestic Product. This is a online-asyanchronus course- meaning you will need good time management skills to stay on top of the classwork, while also having good technology skills. But, you also need to be not afraid of asking questions- econmics can be a lot harder than you would think it could be.
I would recommend that you take this course because of it's flexibility and usefulness. It is all online so you can fit it into almost any schedule and the material you can learn from it is directly applicable to your life regardless of your major. After completing the course, assuming you put in the proper effort, you will be able to understand and discuss almost any issue in economics and the factors surrounding them. You should also be able to formulate your own opinions and ideas regarding certain current economic issue and support your position with facts and logic.
To those that are looking at this course and considering taking it, I would definitely say to take it. It teaches you concepts that are not too difficult to learn and the quizzes felt fair since it tested your knowledge about the subject. This class is also provided with many resources in order to make sure you succeed and achieve the grade that you shoot for. The only downside to this is that you must study a decent amount, but that is something that goes along with every class. Personally, I thought that this class gave me enough leniency if I were to struggle with certain topics and Dr. Myers will also keep in touch with you if you were to have difficulties with the class.
Expect to work hard in this course because if you slack off then you will most likely be behind the majority of the course and you will fail.
The main thing to know with this course is that the due dates are on the same day every week so you should set aside the same block of time weekly. It can be easy to let an asynchronous class be in the back of your mind.
This course is a great example of how a web based course should be delivered. As long as you keep up with the modules and read through the material and watch all of the provided videos, succsess in this course is not difficult to achieve. The quizzes are fair and with three chances for each one, achieving the grades you want is achievable.
The only major thing that I would recommend to future students in this course is that you don't fall behind because it is made very difficult by the structure of the course to catch up.
